The Millbrook City Council held a meeting today to vote on appointing a new member to Ward 5 of the City Council. The newest councilman is Christopher Bath.

The council recently held interviews with four candidates for the position, which was left open after the resignation of former Councilman Hal Hodge. Hodge moved out of his district and was no longer able to retain his council seat. He has since been appointed to the Millbrook Planning and Zoning Board.

Bath grew up in in Pike Road Alabama, attending Jeff Davis High School. He attended John Patterson Technical College for Drafting and Design.

He has been a property and business owner in Millbrook since 1997.

He and his wife, Kelli, have raised their family in Millbrook, with their daughters attending Millbrook schools.

In 2005 he was asked by the late Truel Watts to join both the Millbrook Planning Commission and Zoning Board. He has served on the Zoning Board for several years until 2021. During that time he served as chairman from 2009-2021.

“I have a vested interest in Millbrook and the community,” Bath wrote in his letter of interest to the City Council. “Since serving on the city boards, I feel at this time I have the knowledge and time to devote to this important position.”

He said it is a privilege to serve his community on the Council. He said he will listen to the concerns of community members with the goal of building a better Millbrook.

Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley said he was thankful to all of the residents of Ward 5 who were interested in the position.

“It made me really proud to have so many qualified applicants. And to those who may not have been chosen, please continue to find ways to serve the community and the city. I encourage you to consider joining one of our city boards, such as Planning and Zoning or Industrial Development.”

During the interview process, Mayor Kelley said he was very interested in hearing the concerns of the applicants, and what they would like to see in Millbrook’s future. “I took notes and I was very glad to hear your points and opinions.”

Bath will officially take office at the next regular council meeting Tuesday. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is held in the Municipal Courtroom on Grandview Road, attached to the police station. The meetings are open to the public.
