Elmore County Grand Jury finds no evidence to support Charges

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

UPDATE: As of Oct. 10, 2023, the 19th Judicial District Attorneys office reports that charges against Kristian Mullins have been dropped. An Elmore County Grand Jury filed a No Bill in the case, meaning they did not find there is sufficient evidence for the charges.

On Friday, November 18, 2022, Millbrook Police Department investigators responded to Stanhope Elmore High School with regard to a report of a possible sexual misconduct that occurred between two students, while on campus. School officials discovered two students, who appeared to have been engaged in inappropriate activity, while in a secluded area on campus. Both students were separated and interviewed by school officials, who reported their concerns/findings to law enforcement.

The alleged offender, later identified as Kristian M. Mullins, an 18-year-old Coosada resident, was detained and transported to the Millbrook Police Department for questioning. After completion of the preliminary investigation, Mullins was placed under arrest, being charged with Sodomy 2nd Degree. Mullins was processed and later transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he was placed under a $15,000.00 bond. He has since bonded out.

Because this case involves a minor child, we are extremely limited in what information that we can discuss or release to the public. After speaking with our investigators, what I will say is that nothing from our investigation leads us to believe that there was any violence or the threat of violence, as it pertains to the circumstances of this case. School officials came upon a situation involving a male and female student, which they deemed both suspicious and inappropriate. Once the situation was accessed at their level, they made the decision to contact law enforcement.

Based on our preliminary investigation, probable cause was developed that led our investigators to believe that inappropriate sexual activity did occur between the two students. Due to the ages of the two parties involved and other factors that came to light as a result of the investigation, it was determined that an arrest was warranted in this case. I appreciate the quick and decisive actions on the part of our school administrators, their cooperation and the work done by our Criminal Investigative Unit in this case.

This case remains under investigation.
