PCA’s Hannah Jones Signs University of Memphis Letter of Intent; Becomes Program’s First NCAA Division I Commitment

From Rebecca W. Thomas, Marketing and Communications Director

Prattville Christian Academy proudly announces that Hannah Jones signed a Letter of Intent to play volleyball with the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee. Following the school’s first state volleyball championship title, of which she was an integral part of, she continues to blaze new trails as the program’s first student-athlete to commit to a NCAA Division I institution to further her passion for volleyball while advancing her education.

Hannah is an Outside Hitter for the Lady Panthers, and during her high school career has collected quite the stat sheet that exemplifies her love of the sport, the program, and her teammates. “She is always working to improve her skills, not only in practice but on her own time too with extra reps,” said Kaylon Cantrell, PCA’s head volleyball coach. “She always encourages her teammates and pushes them to work hard in practice and in games.” During the 2022 season, Hannah contributed to every aspect of the games played, breaking several program records in her pursuit of a state title run. Anyone who knew Hannah knew she would to do everything she could to help put her team in the running for the coveted blue map! For most of the season, she averaged 11 kills every game for approximately 4.5 four kills per set, but during the state tournament, she averaged an insane 27 kills per match, playing the three best games of her high school career! “It’s safe to say she saved her best for last,” said Coach Cantrell.

“I am so proud of Hannah,” said Tara Osborne, PCA’s athletic director. “Her high school career has been an inspiring journey that I’ve been privileged to take with the Jones family. Watching her grow on the court, in the weight room, in the classroom, as a teammate, and through the extra hours she spent dedicated to her sport is an experience that energizes me to do more, be better, and keep grinding to make a difference in the lives of young people.”

Hannah is no stranger to local media outlet’s weekly player recognition, and has been spotlighted as the Max Prep’s High School Player of the Week for the state of Alabama and Alabama High School Athletic Association’s (AHSAA) Gatorade Player of the Week after her performance in the state tournament. She was voted as the Most Valuable Player following the area and state tournaments, and has been selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) High School All-Region Team and All-American First Team – a distinction reserved for only 50 student-athletes from across the country.

“Hannah has been such an important part of our program for the past six years, helping the program to grow and compete at the highest level,” said Coach Cantrell.”The time and effort she put into her play, this program, and her team is appreciated more than she will ever know! She definitely leaves a legacy on campus, and we are excited for her as she starts this next journey. We know she will continue to do big things at Memphis!”
