On November the Millbrook Kiwanis Club held their weekly meeting at The Plantation House Restaurant with guest speaker Secretary of State John Merrill. The Plantation House Restaurant is located at 3240 Grandview Road in Millbrook. The Millbrook Kiwanis Club is a local organization that help the children in the community. They have weekly meetings every Wednesday at Noon in Millbrook.

Merrill spoke about the integrity of the election process at the meeting. He talked about the many duties of his office and  pointed out that Alabama is among one of the top states for elections. Alabama has a high percentage of registered voters according to the population. He also spoke out how secure our system is and the things that are in place to prevent fraud. The Secretary of State is the oldest elected position in Alabama. There was a Secretary of State before a Governor. The Secretary of State can only hold two terms in office, and Merrill is wrapping up his final term.

Joyce Evans, President of the Millbrook Kiwanis Club and an Ambassador for the Millbrook Chamber of Commerce spoke to EAN.

“I have been the President for three years now. Today, I would like to thank the Secretary of State, John Merrill, for speaking to our club about election integrity and special thanks to all the people involved,” said Evans.

Millbrook Kiwanis Club raises money to help the children in our community in a variety of ways and including literacy. They would love to increase the membership to keep up with growing needs. If you would like to become a member, please reach out to Joyce Evans at First Community Bank at (334) 386-4322 or join them at the Plantation House in Millbrook every Wednesday at Noon.

Aside from making new friends, enjoying interesting speakers, and serving the community, you also get a fantastic meal at the Plantation House each week.

KIDS NEED KIWANIS

Kiwanis helps kids around the world. Local clubs look out for our communities and the international organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and poverty. We are generous with our time. We are creative with our ideas. We are passionate about making a difference. And we have fun along the way.

For more than a century, Kiwanis has created opportunities for children to be curious, safe and healthy regardless of the community in which they live. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things can happen.
