The Elmore County Board of Education held a special called board meeting this afternoon at 3:00 P.M. The meeting was streamed live on Facebook as well as open to the public at the ECBOE offices in Wetumpka. Five of the seven board members were present.

The board meeting was called to order and invocation held. Superintendent Richard Dennis addressed a few items for information purposes for the board. The school enrollment as of today is 11,349 for all schools across the district. Dennis addressed camera issues within schools and discussed the need for new ones to be purchased to ensure safety at the highest level at all schools. Next he discussed an update regarding the MOU between the Board and the 17 Springs Project as well as the Wetumpka Sporting Complex. Dennis talked about the use of the fields to be open in October/November and payment being made between the Board and the entities with both projects. The final item shared for information received was the purchase of four vehicles for use by SROs in the county. This is a project entered into with the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department and the four vehicles will be purchased off the state purchasing site.

A special presentation was made by Dennis and Ms. LaTresia Robinson, Principal Eclectic Middle School. Robinson discussed the hiring of the new Assistant Principal, Ms. Morgan Murphy, but she also shared a happy story. Murphy was a student of Robinson’s in her first year of teaching. The board congratulated the new hire.

Finally, the Action Items needed for vote by the board were addressed. Personnel Action was introduced by Dennis with the board having no set asides, and voting unanimously to pass. You can find the copy of the personnel action here. There were changes and updates made to the Credit Recovery Manual and it passed the vote unanimously. Dennis asked to renew the annual contract with Kelly Staffing Services, which runs the substitutes for the county, and this passed the vote unanimously. Finally, the purchase of the four SRO vehicles was presented, State Bid #T191, with voting passing unanimously.

Dennis reminded the board that there was a need for a financial budget meeting to be held before September 20, and the members are to get back to him regarding the best date to meet. This will be announced via the county website and Facebook page. The next Regular Board Meeting will be held at 4:30 P.M. at the ECBOE offices on September 20.
