Marbury High School Seniors Kick off the first of school with Parade, Harmless Pranks

SPECIAL TO THE ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

The 2022/23 Marbury School year started off early for seniors Tuesday, the night before the first official day of school. The new class kept up with the old traditions of senior class school pranks. Balloons lined the hallways, yellow crime scene tape draped across the front of the school, forks stuck in the ground and rolls of toilet paper decorated the trees.  The school was even “For Sale.”

The rain didn’t stop seniors from decorating their parking spaces, which were decorated with chalk names and art.

Wednesday morning, the first day of school started for seniors with the annual senior breakfast hosted by Boones Chapel Baptist Church. The seniors and their parents were treated with a hot breakfast and the class received a blessing from Youth Minister Jonworth Locke, who encouraged seniors to have a successful school year.

After breakfast, cars could be seen lined around the church, preparing for the parade. At 8:15 a.m. Autauga County Sheriff’s deputies blocked roadways and School Resource Officer Johnson led the students to their last, first day of high school.  The parade departed from Boones Chapel on County Road 59 to Highway 31 and then into the school. The roadside was filled with friends, family members and well-wishers to show encouragement for the seniors on their final year of high school.

The class of 2023 will be the 112th class to graduate as Marbury Bulldogs. Marbury School was established in 1910 with just three teachers and housed all grades. Through the years and growth of the community, the school system now has three schools that continue to grow. The High School had to build on a new wing to their building and now has over 50 staff members which includes support staff.

Meet the Bulldogs will be Thursday night at 6 pm at the Marbury High Football Field. This is where this year’s athletes meet the crowd. This includes all the players and cheerleaders from Varsity, JV, Middle school, and the Marbury Youth League. The bulldogs start their football season Friday Aug. 18th away against Elmore County High School. The first home game for the Bulldogs will be against John Carroll High school Friday Aug. 26th.
