The Autauga County Commission held a relatively normal meeting last week, but it began with two touching resolutions celebrating local heroes before other county business was approved.

With a reasonably short agenda for the night of the commission meeting, some positive and encouraging resolutions were brought to county leaders by Senator Clyde Chambliss, who heralded the accomplishments of Alabama Game Warden Chris Hill and the late William Vasser Caver, Sr.

After Hill and Caver were recognized by Chambliss and the commission, Resolution #2022-24, which was a measure to submit a grant application for Old Kingston Park, was approved.

Next on the agenda was the approval of the resignation of Shaun Pearsall, Deputy Sheriff, and to hire a replacement and the approval to hire Cody Duncan, Full-Time Jailer to replace Markell Baldwin, who resigned.

The hiring of Jacorian Jackson, Full-Time Jailer, to replace Martevion George was also approved by leaders, the adjustment of line items for the jail, as well as the approval of the resignation of Courtney Gray, Appraiser.

Before resident Jackie Speigner was scheduled to make comments, the commission approved the adjustment of line items for the Judge of Probate. Speigner tabled her comments however when it was her turn to speak.

Jack Morgan, another resident that has approached the commission many times with issues such as road paving in District 5, stood to address the group about using American Rescue Plan funds for Old Kingston Park.

After Morgan spoke, several decisions were approved regarding the County Engineering Department including approving the resignation of Clarence Freeman, Mechanic Apprentice I, and advertising a replacement, approving a one-year, one step pay increase for Quendarius Tripp, Truck Driver, the approval for a slope mower for Blossom Road and Pickett Mill in the Town of Autaugaville and the approval of Resolution #2022-25, which is a construction agreement for CR 40 from CR 69 to CR 21 in District 5.

The commission entered into an Executive Session for a short period of time before adjourning.
