On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at approximately 12:06 PM, Millbrook police officers responded to the area of Long Drive and Pollard Drive with regard to a report of a subject shot. Upon arrival, officers located a Chevrolet Malibu in the yard of a residence, which appeared to have veered of the roadway and struck a parked vehicle, prior to coming to rest. Officers made contact with the driver, later identified as Destin D. Lecorn, a 23-year-old Millbrook resident, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim advised that he was shot while driving on Long Drive, near Mickles Drive. The victim was treated at the scene by Millbrook fire rescue units and later transported to Baptist South Emergency Room in serious, but stable condition. The scene was turned over to detectives from the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit.

Millbrook police officers were able to locate and secure the apparent crime scene nearby, at Long Drive, at Mickles Drive. While there, officers made contact with and detained a possible suspect, later identified as Dante D. Jackson, a 31-year-old Millbrook resident.

A weapon, believed to have been used in the offense, was recovered. Jackson was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he was later placed under arrest, being charged with Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle and Assault 1st Degree. The alleged offender was transported to the Elmore County Jail, with no bond, pending arrest warrants being obtained and served.

I appreciate the quick response of our officers and investigators involved in this case. We are still in the very early stages of this investigation, so there is not a lot of information that we’re able to comment on at this time. We believe this to be an isolated incident and we are still trying to learn more with regard to the events that led up to the victim being shot.

These two individuals are acquaintances and we are unaware of any issues between these two individuals prior to today. I know I’ve said it to ad nauseam, but this type of senseless violence has no place in our community. This is not how we, as adults solve problems. We have one man in the hospital with serious injuries and another in jail facing very serious felony charges. Two lives altered, with neither the better for it. We, as a society, have to be better than this.
