Videl Stankevich, of Millbrook, Arrested for Robbery; Victim Fought Back with Nail Gun

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, at approximately 1:50 a.m., a Millbrook resident was outside of his residence on the 4000 block of Oak Tree Road, when he was approached by an individual who was armed with a handgun, demanding a ride. The offender and victim entered the victim’s vehicle and proceeded to the area of Deatsville Highway. While inside the vehicle, the offender demanded money from the victim. The victim armed himself with a nail gun and began to resist the offender and a physical altercation between the victim and offender ensued. The offender exited the vehicle and fled the scene.

The victim reclaimed his vehicle and proceeded southbound on Deatsville Highway, where he was able to flag down a Millbrook patrol unit and report the robbery. Additional patrol units responded to the area and were able to quickly locate a suspect, who matched the victim’s description, near the intersection of Deatsville Highway and Myrick Road. The suspect was detained without incident and a weapon was recovered.

The suspect, later identified as Videll Eugene Stankevich, a 30-year-old Millbrook resident, was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he was later placed under arrest, being charged with Robbery 1st Degree. Stankevich was processed and transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under no bond, pending warrants being obtained and served.

Our officers did an outstanding job in responding to this incident. Fortunately, we had an officer patrolling in the immediate area and the victim was able to flag him down and relay what had transpired. He quickly relayed that information, to include an accurate description of the offender to responding units, who were able to saturate the area, locate and apprehend the alleged offender without incident or injury. This situation could have ended much differently for all parties concerned had the officers involved not responded as they did. I’m extremely proud of every one of our officers that responded and commend them for a Job Well Done!

To persons that commit these violent crimes, know this –  while we in law enforcement don’t recommend resisting an armed offender, as the victim obviously did in this case, there are those who will fight back and defend themselves and their property. The men and women in this agency and law enforcement across this state come to work each day and night prepared to respond to these types of incidents and do what it takes to apprehend and arrest those who would perpetrate these violent crimes against our citizens.

We take great pride in serving and protecting our citizens. There’s no place for this type of violence in our society and our citizens strongly support our efforts to remove people from our streets that commit these offenses.
