George Lowery, 31, of Billingsley in Autauga County, had his first appearance in Elmore County before District Judge Glenn Goggans Wednesday. Lowery is accused and charged with Domestic Violence 2nd degree and Attempted Burglary 2nd Degree.

On May 4, 2022, Lowery allegedly was stalking an ex-girlfriend who resides in Elmore County, videoing her, and attempted to assault her when she was able to get a gun and shoot him. Since that time, Lowery has been in the hospital being treated for his injuries. He was releaded from the hospital and booked into the Elmore County Jail on May 17, appearing before Judge Goggans at 2 p.m. May 18.

Lowery did not have legal representation at his first appearance, and was explained the charges and his rights by Judge Goggans.

His bond was set at $100,000 Cash only for the DV charge, and $15,000 for the Attempted Burglary charge.

Chief Assistant District Attorney C.J. Robinson told Judge Goggans that investigators have spoken with Lowery since his arrest, and in his statements he verified what the reported victim had told them as well. After the hearing, Lowery was led in handcuffs by a deputy back to the jail where, as of this report, he remains incarcerated.

Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin spoke with the EAN on May 4, saying Lowery was reportedly stalking the victim, and attacked her at a residence on Racetrack Road May 4 off Ceasarville Road.

Franklin said that during the attack, the victim was able to gain access to a weapon and fire three times, with one bullet hitting the suspect in the jaw.

Franklin said deputies were called around 1:30 p.m. to Racetrack Drive, near the community of Elmore. When they arrived they found George Lowery, with injuries from a bullet, and the reported victim who admitted pulling the trigger.

The incident occurred at the alleged victim’s home, Franklin said, adding her identity was not being released at this time.

“This lady called us, and when deputies arrived they found the white male with injuries. They also discovered that Lowery had come on the woman’s property uninvited with a pry bar, handcuffs, binoculars and knives. He had been apparently videoing the victim in the past few days without her knowledge. This is a case of domestic violence with stalking and attempted burglary,” Franklin said. “We believe that Lowery tried to force himself on the victim, who tried to stop him  and fought back. When Lowery did not stop, she had access to a weapon and fired three times. One of those shots hit Lowery in the jaw line and exited on the other side. Investigators said they saw him spitting out four to five teeth.”

Investigators called for help for the injured suspect and questioned the reported victim. They learned that the woman had prior issues with stalking from Lowery in another county. Lowery was transported to Baptist South for treatment.

“From what we can determine, the victim was well within her rights to protect herself, and after she shot him, she held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived,” Franklin said. “He (Lowery) came to Elmore County and was up to no good.”

This case will be presented to a future Elmore County Grand Jury Franklin said.
