On Friday, May 13th the H.I.P.P.Y program celebrated their end of year celebration at the Wetumpka’s Farmer Market located at 304 East Coosa Street in Wetumpka, Alabama.  H.I.P.P.Y stands for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters and it is a FREE program that is offered to the Elmore County families by the Elmore County Board of Education for preschool aged children. Over 110 people came out and attended this special event.

Through hard work and dedication, the children of the HIPPY program completed their education for the school year.

The highlight of this amazing event were two big inflatables that all the children and their families enjoyed. Dinner was provided which consisted of hamburgers, hot dogs, a vegetable tray, fruit, rice Krispy treats, juice, water and tea. Children enjoyed being around other children, playing together, and spending time with their families. Before the celebration ended, each of the Home Visitor Instructors passed out awards to each child. A keepsake book of all the child’s work was also given to them.

There were six children in the five-year-old program that will continue with their school success. A total of 19 children in the four-year-old program graduated and will be going to Kindergarten next year. Congratulations to each of them! Also, 33 children from the three-year-old program will move up to the four-year-old program. The Little Learners consists of 24 two-year-olds, and they will be moving up to the three-year-old program next year.

“We have some of the best parents ever. They work with their children. They also get them prepared for school success and make it fun while learning. Great job to our home visitors, our parents and our amazing children! Learning is fun! With the children moving on to Kindergarten next school year, this leaves room for new students to join our program.,” said MaryAnn McCluskey, HIPPY Coordinator.

The Elmore County Board of Education HIPPY program would like to thank the following Partners in Education: Wetumpka Fire Department, Alabama Department of Public Health for the car seat demonstrations, First Presbyterian Church, Wetumpka High School Theatre, Wetumpka Elementary School, and the Elmore County Board of Education Special Education Department of the Speech and Hearing Therapists.
