Every year, students from a few Autauga County schools get the chance to go to the Autauga County Courthouse and learn about the courts and trials, learn about the law enforcement and the fire department and most importantly, learn how the Big Bad Wolf maliciously attacked poor Curly Pig.
Friday, May 6 was Law Day in Autauga County and students from Prattville Primary School and Autauga Academy came to the courthouse and got the opportunity to hear from Judge Joy Booth, Probate Judge Kim Kervin and watch a mock trial involving the dastardly B.B. Wolf (played by PPS Assistant Principal Joseph Cochran) and his legal (and sometimes not so legal) fight with Curly Pig (played by Officer Mallows).
Holly McNider, Principal at Prattville Primary School said she loves when Law Day rolls round.
“This is an exciting event for our students as they are able to learn more about the judicial system and meet some of our local leaders,” McNider said. “The most exciting part is that this year they will be able to watch a silly skit in the real courthouse and truly experience what a courtroom looks like.”
Also involved in the mock trial was Danielle Gantt, who played the Judge, Mylee Kervin, who played Mrs. Wolf, Brad Ekdahl, who played Jack Smith, Kaden Blackburn, who played the Plaintiff’s Counsel and Maggie Kervin, who played the Defendant’s Counsel.
Students also got to hear from Sheriff Joe Sedinger and other law enforcement representatives about “stranger danger” and how to keep themselves safe. They also got to sit with representatives of the Prattville Fire Department and learn about safety.
The students also got a chance to participate, prior to Law Day, in an art contest and winners were also announced during the event.
The Grand Prize went to Brody Vest, while First Place went to Evangeline Alexander, Second Place to Joshua Hanson and Third Place was taken by Harrison Till.
Honorable Mention was given to Emily Dillard, Janilah Sellers, Liam Mahar and Brittany Farias.
