Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce Member in Focus – Landmark Engineering+Construction

To do what you love as a career is amazing but to be able to do it with the ones you love is even better, as Stuart Peters with Landmark Engineering+Construction can attest to.

Peters formed Landmark Engineering+Construction in early 2004 with his father Jerry Peters as a partner.

“We both had a wealth of experience in separate engineering and construction careers,” Stuart said. “The opportunity to work together – father and son – was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.  It’s allowed me be close to home and family, work on projects of choice and make a difference in our Tri-County area communities.”

Jerry Peters worked with the Alabama Highway Department (AHD) while attending Auburn University.  Upon graduation, his career started as a Project Engineer and advanced rapidly to Bureau Chief where his responsibilities were statewide for the AHD. He worked with AHD eventually known as the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for 32 years retiring in 1998.

Stuart Peters worked in the commercial construction industry while still attending Auburn University.  Upon graduation, he continued his career in commercial construction throughout north and central Florida until moving back home starting Landmark Engineering+Construction in 2004. His experience is in private and public sector project management, construction consulting, commercial and residential development and economic development.

As President, Peters explained that his responsibilities include operations, contracting, meetings, client communications, building relationships, and many other aspects of the industry.

“Project management, engineering and consulting are the primary focus for our clients,” he explained. “We have been heavily involved in state and municipal projects for a number of years.  We’ve worked closely with the City of Millbrook on many municipal construction projects, local and state highways, utilities and economic development.”

Landmark Engineering+Construction is involved currently with many important projects in the area.

“It’s never been a busier time in the River Region and particularly the Millbrook area,” the president commented. “We are currently working on several city capital projects that both expand upon existing infrastructure and help lure investment in the area. At this time the Millbrook Senior Center, three grant related infrastructure projects and certainly 17 Springs head the list.”

Peters added that 17 Springs is really a “game-changer” for the region.

“I think it is a generational impact project for the city and its partners,” he said. “We’ve been blessed to be a part of it since conception. It is a great team assembled and I think the positive results of this project will be limitless – commercial, recreational, civic – it is a real opportunity to show what our region is capable of.”

The 17 Springs project is a multi-year regional development encompassing a Phase 1, “The Fields at 17 Springs”, which contains four multi-purpose sports fields, 12 Tennis Courts, 12 Pickle-Ball Courts and Practice Fields. This phase is under construction in the area of SR-14 and Dismukes Road with a scheduled completion in October of this year.

Phase 2, “The Fieldhouse at 17 Springs”, is currently in the design phase with a multi-function event venue for all manner of indoor sports, conferences, concerts, civic events, football and soccer venue, track, etc. This phase of the campus will also have an adjoining baseball and softball complex seamlessly connected with “The Fieldhouse”.

The project is a partnership of the City of Millbrook, Elmore County, the YMCA of Greater Montgomery, the Elmore County Board of Education and Elmore County Economic Development Authority.

Another exciting project Landmark is working with Millbrook on is a creek walk.

“We are working on a recreational trail project grant through ADECA for the upcoming ‘Mill Creek Recreational Trail’.  It is a Phase 1 creek walk concept from Village Green Park north to Edgewood Road. This is a key project in the city’s downtown development strategy,” Peters said.

Landmark points to its wonderful partnership with The Millbrook Chamber as well as with the city.

“It has been an integral part of our success over the years,” he said. “From relationship building, to local business contacts and active participation in economic development projects. Brenda and her team have always been there to help. The knowledge and interaction with other small businesses is quite enjoyable. It’s been amazing to see the growth and know what’s on the horizon for our area.”
