Meghan Best, a senior at Stanhope Elmore High School, signed a letter of intent to Emmanuel College recently to continue in her sport at college.

She is the second female to do so, but the first to have a signing day celebrated at the school. Kacey Marshal was the first female from SEHS to receive bowling scholarship and academic scholarship and is attending and UAB.

Meghan signed with Emmanuel College of Franklin Springs, Georgia last week during a ceremony at the SEHS library. Once in school she will continue competing, but on the NCAA level with a scholarship. In college she wants to study business and accounting and hopes to own her own business one day.

She is the daughter of Darlene and Johnny Best. Her grandfather, David Russell, was there to help her celebrate as well as her brother Ryan Best, who also bowls and is in the eighth grade at Millbrook Middle School.

Megan began with the bowling team in seventh grade at MMS and said, “This is a big honor, and it empowers me to do better.”

As for her grandfather, David, he was also an avid bowler, and says he introduced Meghan to the sport when she was just three or four-years-old.

Meghan has come a long way from bumper league bowling at Bama Lanes, and has been a strong leader for her team according to bowling coaches Bridgette and Kenny Wilson.

“We are super proud of Meghan. We are so excited to see what she does and where she goes. We all love you, we have been around you for a long time,” Bridgette said.

Her mother, Darlene, said the family is “super proud” of Meghan’s accomplishments and her receiving a scholarship. “We want her to achieve everything she wants. We will give her 100 percent support as long as she works for it. There is a lot of practice time that goes into this as well.”

THE SEHS Bowling Team had an excellent year competing. They took first place in Regionals and placed second statewide.
