Marbury Band, Choir Perform at Xfinity Sparks 300 at Talladega Superspeedway

BY ABBY RICHERSON

On October 2, 2021, the Marbury High School Choir, directed by Brett Johnson, and the Northstars Marching Band, led by Director Brett Johnson and Assistant Director Sean Handerhan, travelled to the Talladega Superspeedway. They performed and had a fun filled day at the Xfinity Sparks 300.

The band performed “God Bless America” and the choir sang the national anthem during the pre-race ceremonies. This was the biggest performance yet for the Northstars and the Marbury Choir. The nationally televised race attracted thousands of fans.

Before the performance, the musicians and choir were able to attend the Talladega Garage Experience, where they were able to walk around the infield attractions and enjoy lunch. The performances occurred on pit road, which allowed the performers to get an exciting inside look at the race teams and the driver introductions.

After the performance, the group watched the race and enjoyed the rest of their day at Talladega. It was a great day for the students and will certainly not be forgotten.
