Two very young children who wondered into a yard off Hwy. 9 in Elmore County have been turned over to DHR, according to Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin.
Franklin said the children appeared to be around two to three years of age. Deputies were called and contacted DHR, handing over the children to the agency’s care.
However, just in the past few minutes, Franklin said he learned the parents had been located and are currently talking with DHR officials.
“At this time, DHR is handling this and are the primary and this is their case,” Franklin said. It was not known if the children will be handed over to the parents immediately.
“From what I understand, the parents are talking to DHR officials now,” Franklin said.
What happened, and how the children ended up alone and wondering in that area is still not clear.
The Sheriff’s Office earlier released the kids’ photos asking for assistance on locating the parents. Franklin said he appreciates everyone who contacted their office and gave information.
