Supt. Richard Dennis: Elmore County Continues to Monitor Covid Cases in School System

FROM DR. RICHARD DENNIS

SUPERINTENDENT OF ELMORE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

As we end the first week of school 15 employees and 33 students have tested positive for COVID-19. I encourage everyone who is eligible, especially employees, to take the COVID vaccine. We will monitor each school and determine requirements as we navigate the COVID-19 increase.

Please do not send your students to school if they have any symptoms. Common symptoms exhibited by students thus far include sinus congestion, headaches, sore throat, coughs, and serious fatigue. Masks are currently optional for students and employees, but this will change if the level of infection in a school shows significant increases.

Alabama heat and humidity remain high so please take precautions as needed. Water refill stations are available in all schools, and students are encouraged to stay hydrated with water. Clear water bottles are permissible for students to use as directed by the local school administration.

We are continuing to work through the state administrative software conversion from INOW to PowerSchool.  Please be patient as our faculties and staffs continue to learn the new system and as we receive corrections from the state and PowerSchool. A parent portal will be made available, but this will not occur until we have resolved all of the student schedules and security setup issues.

Finally, if you would prefer to get my call outs and other system-wide communications texted to you through Remind, visit the Elmore County Public Schools website and follow the registration process.

We appreciate your support and have a great weekend!
