The West Elmore Lions Club officially introduced their newly elected officers at their Tuesday meeting inside Millbrook Presbyterian Church.
The Lions Club mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
New West Elmore Lions Club Officers are:
President – John Collier
Vice-President – Danny Bamburg
Secretary – Shana Faulkner
Treasurer – Kathy Kelley
Membership Chair – Sue Morris
Director – Larry Liveoak
The West Elmore Lions Club was officially chartered last summer and will celebrate their one-year anniversary this month.
Art Faulkner, the club’s first president, said that the last year was one that brought many challenges.
“We tried to provide a mechanism online for people that didn’t feel comfortable meeting in person,” Faulkner said. “There’s lots of things that I wish we had accomplished this past year, but I’ve looked back at it and said ‘at least we didn’t just quit’. I’m really hoping that as we return to some sense of normalcy, that this next year, we can accomplish some service projects.”
Faulkner explained that COVID impacted many of the projects that they planned, but that moving forward, the solution to their dilemma could be easily solved.
“We can start doing service projects more than we have been. We can come up with some things that we need to do, but the only way that that is going to happen is if people who are really, really busy can find just a small amount of time in their schedule to devote to our community – doing something,” Faulkner said.
Newly Elected President John Collier gave a brief description of his vision for the West Elmore Lions Club.
“I want to work something out where we can get more members to attend our meetings. I’ve been looking through old newspapers from the past Lions Club and I hope at the next meeting or the meeting after to come up with some similar projects to the ones they had,” Collier said.
“There’s lots of things out there that we can do, we just have to come together and decide what we want to do. It’s going to take a lot of hard work, but I’m looking forward to it.”
While the Lions are best known for its effort to improve vision, the club has other areas of focus, such as diabetes, hunger, environment, and childhood cancer.
