Elmore County families with children 18 and under are encouraged to participate in this summer’s meal program called “Eat Fresh, Elmore.” Food will be distributed from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at five school locations every Tuesday including June 8 through July 27.
Elmore County’s Child Nutrition Program (CNP) will be distributing meal kits containing at least six pounds of fresh produce. Locations include Wetumpka Middle, Coosada Elementary, Holtville Middle, Eclectic Middle, and Redland Elementary.
CNP Program Director Cacye Davis said Elmore County Schools will give out meal kits each Tuesday, but each bag will contain enough food for seven days.
Meal tags will be issued at each site. Parents/guardians are encouraged to complete the Meal Tag Information form in advance. Information forms will be available onsite as well. You can access the Meal Tag Information Form at https://content.schoolinsites.com/…/c88b1b6a0ed14b368f3.
“Join us as we strive to Eat Well, Live Well and Be Well this summer!” said Davis said. “Strive to eat fresh produce, drink water, exercise and read every day this summer.”
Keeping the program running smoothly is a monumental task. Davis said 60 CNP employees have given up their summer break in order to help feed children in need this summer. The school district served more than 9,000 children per week last summer and Davis expects that number to be about the same this year.
This year’s program kicked off last Tuesday at Wetumpka Middle School. City and school district leaders, teachers, administrators, CNP employees and students helped celebrate the summer program.
Mobile Routes will also run from 2pm until 5pm. The order of routes is below:
