The Millbrook Farmers Market kicked off this morning, featuring a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, honey, boiled peanuts, and much more.

Many vendors had samples for their products, and others gave away some for free – such as the Central Alabama Master Gardeners, who let people walk away with a tomato plant at no charge.

However, the most valuable quality that comes attached to the Millbrook Farmers Market is its effort to keep all vendors local, says Market Manager Chuck Burns.

Ken and Cindy Thompson are Millbrook residents who own their own plant business, “Just Scratchin’ Dirt” and will be present for all 14 of the markets. They’ve helped to do craft and food booths for the City of Millbrook in the past.

“We believe in helping the community,” Cindy said. “It’s been a great first Tuesday and we hope to have many more.”

Stacey Davis Battle and Malik Davis, owners of Chicken and Sweets Southern Yard Birds in Prattville, were also present to support the local community.

“We love being out and meeting new people. We know there’s a lot of people who are tired of being cooped up inside, so this is a great chance for them to come out and try local products,” Battle said.

Clarissa Thomas with Burns Family Farm came from Montgomery County to be a part of the Millbrook Farmers Market. It was their first appearance.

“It’s been great so far, and everyone’s been really supportive of us,” Thomas said. Their booth sold loofa sponges, fresh farm eggs, and salad mix – offering a variety of products to suit your needs.

The majority of the vendors will be present each Tuesday for the next 14 weeks, so if you missed the market today, there’s still plenty of time this summer to come out and support the local growers.

The Millbrook Farmers Market will take place every Tuesday starting May 18th – August 17th at the Village Green from 7:00 a.m. – Noon. See more photos below.
