Nikki’s Hair Studio, located at 187 Ashton Plaza St, celebrated their ribbon cutting with the Millbrook Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday morning.
The beauty salon has been a part of the Millbrook community since August of 2019, but owner Nikki Baker says that it’s been difficult to gain the traction needed to run a highly successful business.
“It was really tough for a while, because I basically ran the whole salon by myself for the first year and a half. Business was kind of slow, and once COVID came, it dropped off even more,” Baker said.
However, Baker decided that it would be best to have a staff to help her with every day duties of maintaining a beauty salon, and in February of 2021, she reached out to former Hair Master Stylist, Vanessa Brown, to do just that.
“We came together and decided that it would be best for the business to join the Millbrook Chamber of Commerce. We heard great reviews about everything that they do for the community, and it was something that we wanted to be a part of as well,” Brown said.
Baker says their partnership with the chamber of commerce will bring exciting, new potential.
“Together we’re going to let it be known to the community that we are, in fact, here. The chamber has been so supportive of us every step of the way, and because of them, we have big things planned ahead,” Baker said.
Some of the things that the business has planned includes a full- time social media employee, who will be running accounts on several online platforms. Baker also said that she is currently in the midst of hiring three more stylists, which will open up more time for appointments.
“I’ve been cutting hair for 35 years now, and I haven’t been as optimistic as I am right now. Since I was a child, I always knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life. I would carry scissors with me wherever I went, and I would cut my friends hair whenever I had the opportunity because it made me happy. That feeling of happiness has not changed or wavered throughout the years, and it’s something that I’m feeling now more than ever,” Baker explained.
