The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery is invested in children’s charities in the River Region.  Each October, the organization sponsors the Alabama National Fair at Garrett Coliseum.

While this generates great fun and entertainment for visitors to the Fair, it also generates charitable income for many nonprofit agencies serving youth needs in the area.  On Tuesday, March 9, 2021, the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Foundation awarded $235,000 in grants to these agencies.  These grants are a direct result of the Alabama National Fair, the Pete Peterson Trust, and the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Foundation.

The 2021 Alabama National Fair was a challenge due to the COVID pandemic.   Even with a reduced midway to allow for better social distancing and no indoor concerts, the Fair was still able to generate enough revenue to helped ensure area nonprofits could receive grants in a year when many need it more than ever.

Grants were awarded to:

Aid to Inmate Mothers   $20,000.00

Alabama Dance Theatre $ 7,500.00

Alabama High School Athletic Association $5,000.00

Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches $20,000.00

Alabama Wildlife Federation $10,000.00

Baptist Health (for Montgomery Cancer Center)  $8,000.00

Boy Scouts of America, Tukabatchee Area Council $23,000.00

Boys and Girls Club of the River Region   $20,000.00

CASA of Montgomery County      $ 6,000.00

Child Protect      $12,500.00

Children’s Center             $16,000.00

Children’s Harbor             $14,800.00

Faulkner University          $13,500.00

First Choice Women’s Medical Center     $19,222.00

Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama $7,500.00

Life on Wheels   $10,000.00

Montgomery Christian School     $10,000.00

Young Men on a Mission               $ 3,000.00

 * We also awarded $8,750 to Kiwanis programs (Reading Is Fundamental, Kiwanis International and District Foundations, Circle K Clubs, and Key Clubs).

The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery is the fourth largest Kiwanis Club in the world, and the Alabama National Fair is the organization’s annual fundraiser.  The Kiwanis motto is “Serving the children of the world.”

Since 1955, our Kiwanis Club has donated over $9 million to charity.  Just a few of the major projects we have supported: The Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches, Child Protect, Children’s Harbor, Young Men on a Mission, the Boys and Girls Club of the River Region, and many more.

In addition to charitable grants and Kiwanis programs that we sponsor, we also fund three scholarship programs.  The following scholarships will be announced this May:

Kiwanis Scholarship: $4000/year for 4 years

Jack Carr Memorial Scholarship: $1500/year for 4 years for Engineering majors

Donna Mac Savage Scholarship:  $500/year for 4 years
