Marbury Bulldogs Defeat Elmore Panthers in Girls Basketball Thursday Night

After proving one-point better than their first-round opponent the Elmore County Panthers advanced to the Area 6 final against a hungry group of Marbury Bulldogs.

The home ‘Dogs shredded Holtville 91-29 in the opening round.

Thursday night, in front of the home faithful, they proved just as ferocious biting into the Panthers and scoring a 67-34 victory.

But – for the Etown girls – all is not lost as Thursday’s fling was for the area championship but more than that it was for seeding. They will be the second seed out of the area and will compete next week on the road in the Sub-Regional tournament. Marbury will host their Sub-Regional game.

The Sub-Region is when the AHSAA Basketball Playoffs actually start. The winners there advance to the regional tournament and the thoughts of moving onto the Final 48 and the championships in Birmingham start to be realized.
