The Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition is seeking nominations for their 2021 Character Luminary Awards. These awards acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our citizens in Autauga County and Prattville who have demonstrated leadership and character traits to strengthen their homes, schools, neighborhoods and communities.

The Character Coalition was formed in 2006, after the Prattville City Council passed a Resolution establishing Prattville as a “City of Character”—the second of only three cities in Alabama to receive this prestigious distinction.

In 2010, the Coalition established the Character Luminary Awards to publicly acknowledge and recognize the outstanding efforts of students, educators, citizens, families, businesses and organizations who have demonstrated leadership and character traits.

The Prattville Autauga Character Coalition is committed to the idea that through increasing awareness and promoting good character, we can create a stronger, safer and a more unified community where the culture is character centered.

“One of the most important principles in creating a culture of character is that you will get more of whatever you choose to recognize or celebrate; if you celebrate good character you will see an increase in good character and that is what the Character Luminary Awards are all about,” said Greg Duke, President of the Prattville-Autauga Character Coalition.

“Character is the expression of our decisions that we make on a daily basis, those distinctive qualities that determine our responses. It is often said that a person’s true character is evidenced by decisions made and actions carried out when a person thinks that no one is watching,” continued Duke. “So, it only makes since for the Coalition to ask for these nominations to come from within our community.”

To help support the Prattville-Autauga Community of Character, residents are encouraged to submit their nominations online for the 2021 Character Luminary Awards by visiting the Coalition’s website, www.pacharacter.org before April 4, 2021.

Nominations are being received in the following categories: Student, Educator, Citizen, Family, Business and Organization. The Character Luminary Awards are presented during an annual Character Award Luncheon sponsored by the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce and Arrow Pest Control.

Due to current social distancing guidelines mandated by Governor Ivey and the Alabama State Health Department, the Coalition will announce plans for their award ceremony at a later date.
