ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS
Let’s just be honest. Some of us may be having a hard time getting into the Christmas season. This has been a most unusual and difficult year. Gatherings have been minimized, sanitized and in some cases just completely canceled.
However, the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Prattville welcomed area residents to historic downtown Tuesday night for the Main Street Christmas event. Socially distanced, the Christmas Spirit was definitely present as families and friends shopped, enjoyed downtown dining, the beautiful display of lights and Christmas trees and the “Clip Clop” of a horse-drawn carriage.
The Chamber promoted “Keep the Cheer Here” as a slogan to encourage shopping local this season.
An enormous “Love What’s Local” Gift basket was given away to Laura Bonner. Shoppers could turn in their receipts from shopping during the Main Street Christmas event and Bonner’s name was drawn as the winner!
Couples strolled hand in hand along the Autauga Creek Christmas Trail, children played under the giant Christmas Tree, Carols echoed through the night. A beautiful night and a great time for participants, indeed. Artists and businesses sold their wares along the sidewalk, and shoppers admired the beautiful window displays in the shops.
The mascot for Public Works was “P.W.” and was a big hit for the kids (even some adults) who took photos.
Yes, it has been a difficult year, with so much sadness, sickness and financial difficulties for a lot of us. But there have been some valuable lessons learned along the way as well. We hold those things that are truly important a little closer now, even if we have to be socially distanced. Family, Friends, Faith. Perhaps we will no longer take so many things for granted, like a hug or a handshake.
Thank you to all of the organizers. The lighting and decorations are absolutely gorgeous, and so much work went into making them possible.
May we all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to come.
