Through a Crazy Year, Prattville YMCA’s Field of Dreams Continued to Provide Smiles, Inspiration

BY PETE DOROUGH

SPECIAL TO THE EAN

The Giants had their last game of the season at the Prattville Field of Dreams recently and it was an amazing night that didn’t disappoint. Although 2020 has been a year that has seen so many ups and down, these guys didn’t let that affect their smiles. With constant modifications to ensure safety and ever changing guidelines, the season was able to be productive and give an outlet for so many who just don’t understand what is truly going on.

Without the volunteers, donations and support from so many in so many ways, this wouldn’t be possible.  To all the silent, behind the scenes supporters, we say THANK YOU!

For information on how to help support this amazing nonprofit, please reach out to June Dorough (335 558 1367) with questions, as she is always looking for sponsors, volunteers and help making this possible for future growth.

The Field of Dreams is a nonprofit based at the Bradford YMCA, founded in 2015 as a baseball-based adapted sports field. The program has grown from just a few members/players/sponsors to numbers that are jumping every year to provide an outlet for anyone with disabilities. The program is for anyone at least five years of age or older.

The Adapted sports programs were added in 2018 for any sport that can be adapted and played by everyone involved. Aerobics, flag football, cheerleading, volleyball, soccer and now kickball has been added to the regular season baseball game. Although Covid has thrown some curves, we strive to adjust an allow outlets for all the special people involved.
