Millbrook Receives $20,587 Grant from Alabama Recycling Fund, ADEM Officials; Will be Used for Recycling, Education

The City of Millbrook has received a $20,587.30 check from representatives of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. The grant come from the Alabama Recycling Fund after Millbrook applied to enhance the existing recycling program. The funds will be used tolpurchase a 14-foot Collection Tilt Trailer and fifteen 55-gallon Recyclable Materials Receptacles.

Those receptacles will be placed in Millbrook parks facilities and other public places.

Along with the purchase of these items, the City will launch an education campaign to raise community awareness about the benefits of recycling and to maximize the recyclable materials that may be captured from our community’s waste stream.

The grant period is Oct. 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021 so the city will begin the project after Oct. 1.

Mayor Al Kelley and members of the City Council accepted the check on behalf of the city, thanking ADEM for selecting the city’s project for funding during the regular Tuesday night City Council meeting. ADEM representatives present included Abby Ferguson, Environmental Scientist, Land Division – Materials Management Section; Rick Kelsey, Chief, Materials Management Section; and Scott Story, Chief, Solid Waste Branch, Land Division (who is from Millbrook.)

Mayor Kelley said he is very appreciative of ADEM, and the money will go a long way to further the recycling program in the city.
