It was a long night for Millbrook Police and investigators, after a shooting on Sharon Lane would later claim the life of a young man in his 20s.
The incident happened just after midnight. The victim was found on the ground near a vehicle and had apparently been shot while sitting in the vehicle. Several people fled the scene as officers arrived. There was a brief foot chase by a Millbrook officer, but the subjects running made a getaway.
The State’s K9 Search team was called for assistance, as well as other law enforcement agencies in the area. Details are limited at this time, as we await official information from Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson.
What is known is there was an altercation on Sharon Lane and the victim was shot in the head. He was transported to Baptist South by the Millbrook Fire Department and later succumbed to his injuries. Family is being notified, but we are waiting on the Millbrook Police Department’s official release. Please do not put names or identities of those involved in comments.
Millbrook Police secured the crime scene in the area overnight. We have learned that the vehicle involved in this incident in which the victim was shot had been recently reported stolen out of Tallassee in Elmore County.
Officers temporarily shut down the area around the crime scene to include Sharon Lane, Donna Drive, and Lakeview Drive as a crowd began to gather.
