Members of the Elmore County Drug Task Force seized 30 grams of methamphetamine and made two arrests Wednesday, according to Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin.

“That much meth would be nearly the size of a baseball, to put it into perspective,” Sheriff Franklin said.

In custody after the traffic stop were Thomas Nelson Collier, 36, of Federal Drive in Montgomery and Cecil John Romanick, 39, of Marshall Road in Wetumpka.

Collier was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Romanick was charged with Unlawful possession of a controlled substance, which was found in his underwear. He also had three outstanding probation revocation warrants from different locations throughout the state, Franklin said.

“Yesterday (June 3) our Drug Task Force Agents conducted a traffic stop on a gold Chevrolet Malibu for a traffic violation in the 200 block of Lightwood Road in Holtville,” Franklin said. “During that stop, we had Department of Corrections assisting with their K9. Numerous drug paraphernalia items were also found in the vehicle.”

Franklin said that recent crackdowns on drug activity across the country and at the borders have driven up the cost of drugs such as methamphetamine. Wednesday’s bust has a street value of around $3,600, as the price of a gram of meth has risen in recent months to an average of about $120.

“This is a significant bust for us,” Franklin said, adding he is very proud of all involved with the incident.
