Above is a mugshot from Wayne County, Indiana of Charles Bowne’s arrest for Theft in December 2019.

A man who had reportedly recently been released from jail in Indiana, is hospitalized in critical condition, after allegedly breaking into a home on Clemons Road in Elmore County overnight, after he was shot multiple times by the homeowner.

According to Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin, the suspect is Charles Bowne, 39, a white male and was taken by medical helicopter to Jackson Hospital.

The incident was reported at 4:45 a.m. when deputies were called the Sheriff said.

“The homeowner was asleep in bed with his wife, and a young child was also in the home,” Sheriff Franklin said. “He heard a commotion in the front of the house. He had a gun and went to investigate and confronted the man, later identified as Bowne, near the door. The suspect reportedly told the homeowner to give him all of his ‘Stuff’ and then reached towards his waist. The homeowner fired four shots from a 9 mm, striking Bowne in the head, shoulder, bicep and left leg.”

Franklin said that he has received information that Bowne had been serving jail time in Indiana and had recently been released. He was reportedly living near the home he allegedly broke into, and was recognized as familiar by the homeowner.

Deputies located what is believed to be pipe used for smoking drugs on the suspect.

“We operate under the premise that your home is your castle,” Franklin said. “But this will be presented to an Elmore County Grand Jury at a later date.”

As for the homeowner, his wife and young child, they were not physically injured in the incident.
