Elmore County Art Guild Awards Presentation, Reception is Feb. 23 at First Community in Millbrook

The Elmore County Art Guild invites area residents to the 36th Annual Elmore County Art Guild Awards Presentation and Reception Sunday, Feb. 23.

The event will be held at First Community Bank of Central Alabama, located at 3300 AL Hwy. 14 in  Millbrook from 2 to 4 p.m.

Artwork will be on display Feb. 21 through Feb. 28.

All artwork for the ECAG 36th Annual Show must be submitted on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Artwork must be delivered to the Millbrook branch of First Community Bank of Central Alabama located at 3300 Alabama Hwy 14 in Millbrook.

The Annual Guild Show will open to the public. This show is an adjudicated show with awards given in the following categories: Two-Dimensional Not Under Glass, Two-Dimensional Under Glass, Three-Dimensional & Pottery, and Photography & Printmaking.  For additional information, contact Shirley Esco, President and Show Chairman at 334-399-5115.

Promoting the arts in Elmore County since 1985

The concept of forming the Elmore County Art Guild began as an idea discussed by several Elmore County artists. The first organizational meeting was held in Wetumpka on January 26, 1985, at the home of Jo Glenn, a former mayor of Wetumpka.

Founding members include: Doris Bell, Duane Bratton, Martha Connell, Eula Dickson, Barbara Fitzgerald, Jo Glenn, Judy Lea Graves, Ora Kniskern, Margaret Knox, Reba Matthews, Betty Meadows, Ann Morrow, Frances Spence, and Mildred Trotter. Today, the membership is made up of approximately 80 diverse individuals with varying backgrounds and interest. Regular meetings, which include educational programs, are held on a monthly basis with the exception of June, July, and August.

The primary objective of the Guild is to advance and promote the appreciation, enjoyment and exhibition of the visual arts, for the mutual improvement, cultural benefit, and social enlightenment of Guild members and the public at large.In addition to organizing annual adjudicated exhibitions, the Guild maintains regular ongoing exhibits at the Wetumpka Depot Players theater, the Wetumpka Public Library, and the Wetumpka City Hall. The Guild’s signature exhibition is the Annual Guild Show is typically held in February of each year at the Wetumpka City Hall located at 408 South Main Street in Wetumpka.
