USA Academy Founder Dusty DeVaughn told the Elmore/Autauga News that he met with Town of Coosada officials as well as representatives with the Central Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission today, and “I feel better today than I have in a while,” he said.
While there are still several issues to work through, and a lot of work ahead, DeVaughn said the project for USA Academy to locate on 115 acres off Lynn Drive in Coosada is moving forward.
On the school’s website at theusaacademy.com, DeVaughn issued a release Monday evening about Jeff Kent being hired as the new defensive coordinator under Head Football Coach Rush Propst.

Jeff Kent has been named the new defensive coordinator under head football Coach Rush Propst at the new USA (Ultimate Student Athletes) Academy. Coach Kent went 35-5 as a GHSA Defensive Coordinator. Coach Kent started catching the eyes of big programs after his 2016 campaign as Defensive Coordinator with Crisp County when he led his defense to breaking multiple school records.
This should come as no surprise, as Coach Kent served under Coach Propst at Colquitt County coming from a dominate 2018 year. Coach Kent led Colquitt’s 2018 defense that holds multiple GHSA state record in the highest classification of football in Georgia. In 2019, Coach Kent served as defensive coordinator at Cairo High School where they finished region runner up in their 8-3 campaign.
Coach Kent is no stranger to putting out NCAA Division 1 and other scholarship talent. Some notable talent Coach Kent has coached includes; Quay Walker of Georgia, JJ Petterson of Tennessee, Markaveist “Big Kat” Bryant of Auburn, Rashard Revels of UAB, Marcus Anderson of Georgia State, and Camari “Juicy” Louis of Kennesaw State.
Coach Kent joins a USA Academy staff that has assembled a National schedule for its inaugural season which will be released to the public this week. Names being mentioned for the schedule include St Frances Academy (MD), St John’s (DC), Life Christian (VA), IMG (FL), and more. We are anxiously awaiting the full and confirmed schedule to be posted.
