St. Andrew’s Day Scottish Dinner a Huge Success at the Millbrook Civic Center

By Michael Gay

Special to Elmore Autauga News

For a night in Millbrook, over 160 neighbors of our community gathered to celebrate Scottish heritage while supporting a worthy cause- Folds of Honor.

Brannon and Carol Bowman with their son, Thomas, organized an evening filled with music and song from the Birmingham Celtic group Hooley.

The traditional Scottish meal was prepared by Bon Appetit Catering.

The sound of Bagpipes filled the air before Brannon gave the presentation and the address of the Haggis (A Scottish tradition of reading a poem before serving of the Haggis, which is a Scottish sausage).

The speaker for the evening was Ms. Hannah Davis, a former recipient of a Folds of Honor Scholarship and a Gold Star Daughter of First Lieutenant Jeffrey Davis.  Hannah shared her story of her father dying from a Black Hawk Helicopter accident when she was three.  She also shared how Folds of Honor helped her and her brother attend college.

Folds of Honor seeks to empower military families by providing educational scholarships and other assistance for the children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.  FoldsofHonor.org.

The evening ended with a traditional sing along of “Rolling Home” and “Auld Lang Syne.”
