Millbrook Police Department
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Millbrook police responded to the 4100 block of Lakeview Drive regarding a possible body observed floating in a small lake, which is bordered by the Lakeshore community and Sandtown Road. The complainant advised responding officers that he’d observed what appeared to be a human body in the water on the opposite side of the lake from his property. Officers responded to the 2700 block of Sandtown Road, just south of Helms Drive, where they located human remains in the water, just off the shoreline.
Detectives with the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene, as well as Millbrook Fire Department personnel, who assisted in retrieving the remains from the water. Upon preliminary investigation, detectives were unable to observe any obvious signs of foul play. The remains were secured and transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and the identification of the decedent.
At this time, our detectives are conducting a death investigation. Other than the location and recovery of the victims’ remains, we have very little information to go on. The remains appear to be that of a black male adult, approximately 30 to 50 years of age, approximate weight 180 to 200 pounds. The individual was wearing black shorts, black tank top and white tennis shoes. We don’t currently have any reports of any people reported missing from our jurisdiction that match the description of this individual. We have reached out to our law enforcement partners in the surrounding area, providing them with the limited information that we have at this time.
We are requesting the public’s assistance in this case. Should anyone have any information pertinent to this case, we request that they contact the Millbrook Police Department at (334)285-6832, or they may also contact our Secret Witness Line at (334)285-8500.
As stated, based on our preliminary investigation, there are no obvious indicators that there was any foul play that may have caused the death of this individual. That said, we are still concerned with ascertaining the identity of this individual, determining what caused their death and the proper notification of family members. The investigation is ongoing.
