Fans of Prattville Lions’ football might have good reason to get excited about the upcoming season. The Lions recently won a 7v7 competition at a summer camp at Auburn University. Most of the teams in the camp were high school teams from Georgia.

“I wanted to play against some teams from Georgia that we wouldn’t see during the season,” said Prattville Head Coach Bobby Carr. “It gives us a chance to assess our guys against some really good competition.”

The Lions won eight of nine games in a single day.

“Playing so many games in one day really tested our guys’ mental and physical toughness. But the coaches and players really did a great job. We got better defensively as the day went on,” said Coach Carr.

In the semi-finals of the 7v7 tournament, the Lions defeated LaGrange (GA) High School, which is coached by the brother of former Florida Head Coach Billy Napier. Last season, LaGrange advanced to the semi-finals of Class 3A, only losing to eventual state champ Sandy Creek.

In the championship game of the 7v7 tournament, the Lions faced defending state champ Thomas County Central, a powerhouse program in Georgia. They won the Georgia Class 5A state championship last year, finishing with a 15-0 record. They also won the 2023 Class 6A state championship.

The Lions will face several teams from Alabama this week when they play a 7v7 tournament in a camp at the University of Alabama. The following week, the Lions will play in a camp at UAB.

The opening game of the football season is just two months away. The Lions first two games will be on the road. They will play at Niceville (FL) on August 21 and at 17 Springs against Stanhope Elmore on August 28.
