Former Marbury softball player Addyson Jarman made the most of her freshman season at Faulkner University. The freshman had a batting average of .418 with 52 RBIs and 8 home runs.  As a result, Jarman was named Freshman of the Year and All Conference for the Southern States Athletic Conference. She was also named to the conference’s Gold Glove Team as an outfielder.

“I absolutely loved my freshman season,” said Jarman. “At first, I was nervous because the team mainly consisted of upper class men, and there were only two incoming freshmen. I knew that I had to work hard to even get an opportunity for playing time with the talent that was already there at Faulkner.”

The Eagles went 29-17 on the season and 14-12 in conference play.

Jarman had some big moments during the season, with one of the biggest occurring on Faulkner’s senior day when the Eagles hosted Blue Mountain. With the Eagles behind 8-7 in the bottom of the 7th inning of Game 1, Jarman hit a 2-run walk-off home run to give Faulkner a 9-8 win. The Marbury grad had three hits in Game 1. In Game 2, Jarman went 1-3 with an RBI in the 3-1 Faulkner win.

“The transition from high school to college was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. My teammates made it very easy for me to learn the game on a bigger level. Playing on the same field with them allowed me to play loose and stress free because I knew they had my back no matter what. The season was fast, but I enjoyed everything about it,” said Jarman.

After a successful freshman season, Jarman is preparing for a strong sophomore campaign by going to the gym 4-5 days a week. She is lifting weights, hitting, throwing, taking field reps, and working on speed and agility.

“My goals for this next season are to be more aggressive both defensively and offensively. My main focus this year is RBIs. I know that if I have more RBIs, then I am doing my part in helping my team succeed in the best way possible,” said Jarman.

Jarman plans to major in exercise science. After graduation, she hopes to go to graduate school to become a pediatric physical therapist.
