Two-vehicle crash Monday claims Montgomery man

MONTGOMERY POST – A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Monday, July 21, has claimed the life of a Montgomery man. Dakus M. Nixon, 50, was critically injured when the 2008 Freightliner box truck he was driving struck the rear-end of the 2023 Hyundai Palisade driven by Vatausha O. Howard, 42, of Selma. After the initial impact, the Freightliner then struck a concrete barrier. Nixon was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected. Nixon was transported to Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, where he later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The crash occurred on Interstate 85 near the 2-mile marker, inside the city limits of Montgomery, within Montgomery County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
