I had the best message from Kelly Pomeroy, of Millbrook, today and wanted to share it. If you need a feel-good moment, make you smile story, here it is.
Sophie is a seventh grader at Millbrook Middle School. Kelly is Sophie’s mother.
At the beginning of this school year, Sophie was given the task of raising the American Flag on the school grounds each day.
Sophie has taken that job very seriously and does it with honor. She even researched why the flag would be flown at half-staff, in honor of the late President Jimmy Carter. She wanted to make sure it was done correctly and with great respect.
This morning Robin Kora, who also has a child at MMS, noticed Sophie looking very serious as she did her flag duty. Robin walked over and spoke to Sophie giving her a hug. She took her photo as she raised the flag to half-staff. Sophie explained how important it was, and how she loves her job.
Sophie’s mom, Kelly, said, “I never really thought of Sophie as patriotic, but I guess she is. When the school year started, she was so excited about being given this job.”
Robin Kora sent Kelly the photo, and thanked her for raising an amazing daughter, saying, “She has a beautiful soul. I told her, the things you do and say mean more to people than you think.”
I agree.
