At the Autauga County Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening, Superintendent Lyman Woofdin recognized all members of the Autauga County Board of Education.
Board Chair Billy Hollon, Jamie Jackson, Kim Crockett, Kyle Glover and Tracye Strichik who was absent, have all achieved high levels with the Alabama School Board Association, or AASB. Woodfin confirmed that all five members of the board have received level two or higher this year.
“We applaud their commitment to school board service demonstrated by their participation in this program,” Woodfin said.
In order to reach level two, Woodfin confirmed that it takes countless meetings, training and many other acts of participation to receive the accolade with a minimum of 50 hours of ongoing training on education, legal, and governance issues to reach a level two.
According to the AASB website, their mission is to provide training and advocacy education leaders throughout the state. Through the academy the AASB teachers’ courses include leadership for policy planning, academic achievement, financial accountability and many other classes as well.
Training provided by the AASB’s academy includes basic conflict resolution, better boardmanship, board’s role in budgeting.
“Each board member received level two in the academy and has met the required hours of training of the School Board Governance Improvement Act. We applaud their commitment to school board service demonstrated by their participation,” Woodfin said.
