The Autauga County Commission read a resolution in honor of the retirement of former Prattville Fire Chief Terry D. Brown during their Tuesday meeting.

“I do want to say I am truly honored. I’m a county resident, and I’ve had a great opportunity over 37 years to serve all residents of this county, and they’ve been very good to me. I am proud of all of these commissioners that I know quite well. Thank you for what you do day in and day out,” Brown said.

Brown has served within the Prattville Fire Department for over 37 years. The the resolution stated that Brown was also a product of Autauga County Schools and started his career on February 9,1987 as an EMT.

As an EMT, Brown progressed through the ranks from a firefighter to a Sergeant Driver Operator in 1990, to Lieutenant in 1997, Captain in 2000, Division Chief and Fire Marshal in 2002, Deputy Fire Chief in 2007 and finally Fire Chief in 2011.

Brown was instrumental in securing the land and opening the fourth fire station in Prattville. The city has since named Fire Station 4 as the Terry D. Brown Fire Station in honor of over 37 years of unwavering service to the Prattville Community.

Commission Chairman Jay Thompson thanked Brown for his diligent service over the years, but also thanked him for having a heavy hand in the Swift Water Rescue Team. That same team is currently helping in the wake of disaster from hurricane Helene.

“I’d like to offer a prayer to the Swift Water Rescue team that I know formed under your leadership. You’ve helped the county with several different things over the years, some of those memories hit very close to home to all of us,” Thompson said.

While Brown’s fire service with Prattville has been extinguished, his burning light and legacy will live on shaping the Prattville Fire Department and Station 4 for years to come.
