Coosada Elementary School is an amazing community of students, parents, and teachers who learn and grow together. The school is located at 5260 Airport Road in Coosada, Alabama. Each year, the school promotes an anti-bully campaign that is recognized as Red Ribbon Week. Students make a choice to remain drug, alcohol, and bully free. This year Coosada Elementary kicked off Red Ribbon Week from October 24th through the 28th.
Each day was celebrated by a different theme for anyone who wanted to participate.
Monday- Life is 248% better in Pajamas. (PAJAMA DAY)
Tuesday- Life gets a little crazy sometimes. (CRAZY HAIR DAY)
Wednesday- Life makes me want to kick my boots up. (WESTERN DAY)
Thursday- What decade is still hiding in your family’s closet? (THROWBACK THURSDAY)
Friday- Don’t let drugs trick you, they are not a treat. (COSTUME DAY)
Monday started off with a Red Ribbon Week kick-off pep rally for all the students to enjoy. At the end of the week teachers and students were able to walk around the school in their costumes and receive candy from the staff. The school had a great time dressing up on theme days and making it an amazing week.
Heather Perdue is the Computer Teacher and Technology Coordinator for Coosada Elementary School. She spoke to EAN about the importance of Red Ribbon Week.
“We use this week to talk with our students about how important it is to to stay drug free and not be a bully,” said Perdue. “Each day was a theme to make the week fun for our students. Our theme this year was ‘Celebrate Life! Live Drug Free!’ On Friday, we had our costume parade because we will not be tricked by drugs. The students wore their costumes and enjoyed walking in the parade around the school! It was a such a fun day for all the students and faculty.”
Perdue also continued, “We also had a door decorating contest where the teachers decorated their doors to be board game and family game themed along with being drug free. Our teachers were super creative! We had judges come out and judge the doors. The winner will be announced later this week.”
