Hats Off to Millbrook’s Loveliest Litter Lady

From: City of Millbrook

The City of Millbrook is a tidier place because of Carol Honaker and her tireless efforts to keep our community litter free.  A Millbrook resident and retired nurse, Mrs. Honaker, 89, was recognized at last night’s City Council meeting for her service to the community. Mayor Kelley presented Mrs. Honaker with a Proclamation extending Millbrook’s heartfelt appreciation for her almost daily routine of picking up litter along Main Street and her neighborhood and encouraging others to do the same.  She has been successful in recruiting others to join her in the war against litter.  Mayor Kelley noted, “on my way to work, I would often see this lady picking up trash along Main Street but was always in too much of a hurry to stop and formally thank her.  Well one day, I made time. I pulled over, introduced myself and listened to her story.  We are blessed with this individual.”

Known as “The Loveliest Litter Lady”, a self-proclaimed title, Mrs. Honaker has been patrolling the streets of Millbrook picking up trash since she moved here in 2005 with beauty, grace and determination.  Mrs. Honaker grew up in a military family and lived all over the world.  She observed that almost everywhere she lived outside the country, particularly in Japan and the European countries, they seemed to address litter control better.  Mrs.  Honaker says “I love the Millbrook people and atmosphere and want our city to be beautiful.  We all benefit from a litter-free city.  Not only does it improve quality of life, but it’s also good exercise.  Walking and picking up trash keeps you fit!”
