District Attorney Randall Houston will not seek reelection this year. He has endorsed his Chief Deputy CJ Robinson, who has qualified for the election in May.

FROM THE 19TH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

After more than 38 years of public service to the citizens of Alabama, Randall Houston, District Attorney for the 19th Judicial Circuit, has announced he plans to not seek reelection and to assume supernumerary status at the end of his term.

District Attorney Houston served in the 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for 33 of those 38 years and was appointed District Attorney in 2001. He is characterized by those who know him, as a “well respected public servant and tough on crime District Attorney.”

Houston is recognized as being at the forefront in the state for prosecutions and legislation. Compelled by a desire to strengthen penalties for cases in his circuit, Houston was instrumental in working with lawmakers on the passage of the Homicide by Vessel law in 2014 and Winston’s Law in 2016.

Houston is confident he will be leaving his office in skilled hands as he is endorsing his Chief Deputy District Attorney CJ Robinson to fill the position.

“CJ has worked alongside me for years and I trust his instinct and his character. He is motivated to provide justice for victims of crime while creating safer communities for families in Elmore, Autauga and Chilton Counties. I could not think of a more qualified candidate for the job,” Houston said.

Robinson has been with the 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for 15 years and was appointed Chief Deputy in 2012, where he has served as the second in command.

Although Robinson is a career prosecutor, he participated in and graduated from the Montgomery Police Academy in 2016. Robinson is the first and only prosecutor in the state to successfully complete the police academy and considers his training a step toward understanding the issues officers face and how they respond to pressure situations.

According to Robinson, “The end result is law enforcement and prosecutors together building solid cases in our pursuit of truth and justice.”

Houston’s term runs through December 2022. CJ Robinson, a lifelong Republican, has qualified to run in the May 24, 2022 primary.
