Prattville Head Football Coach JB Wallace Says Team has Turned Focus to SEHS after 1-0 Start

JB Wallace is undefeated as Prattville’s new head football coach. Albeit, only one game into the season, Wallace had exactly the type of start that would meet his expectations – a dominating 41-13 win over Wetumpka, spoiling the Indian’s first game in their new stadium.

Stellar performances from Quarterback EJ Ousley, 201 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception, and Kameran Shanks, 5 receptions for 165 and 2 touchdowns, helped lead the way to the Lions’ victory.

An hour and half rain/lightening delay extended the game late into the night.

At this morning’s Prattville Millbrook Sunrise Rotary meeting, Wallace spoke about his expectations for the team, including what went into Friday night’s win.

“We continually challenge our guys, in whatever it is – and they always rise to the occasion,” Wallace said. “If you were to ask our kids what the most important game of the season is, they would have told you last Friday night – because it was our first game. Of course, this week, they would tell you it’s Stanhope Elmore. We treat every opponent like it’s our state championship.”

Wallace explained that one of his most important philosophies as head coach is to make sure that his players see consistent improvement.

“One of the things I talk to them about every day is being 1 percent better. If you challenge these young men to be better 1 percent every day, then they respond,” Wallace said.

Wallace said that his expectations for the team are nothing short of perfection.

“I can’t look at you can say we’re going to go 8-2 or 2-8 – I don’t really understand how to do that. The only thing I can tell you is that I wake up every day and try to figure out how to go 10-0. That was me in May. That was me in June. And that’s me now,” Wallace said. “I feel strongly about this team, and I feel like we’re getting better every day. If you go 10-0 in the regular season, then the playoffs will take care of themselves.”

The Lions will now turn attention to the Stanhope Elmore High School Mustangs, who had a dominating opening night performance as well – shutting out the Selma Saints 37-0. Wallace said that limiting explosive plays will be a key to victory.

“In order for us to be successful, we can’t give up big plays on our defense and we have to force them to take long drives. Offensively, we need to protect our quarterback. They’re very stout up front, so we’ll have our hands full on the line of scrimmage,” Wallace said.

Ultimately, Wallace said that the season outlook is one of promise, and that he’s excited about the prospect of winning games.

“I’m looking forward to a very successful season. I’m looking forward to comradery and building the family together – all of things that you look for in a great program. I think we’re moving in the right direction to do so,” Wallace said.

Prattville hosts Stanhope Elmore High School this Friday at Stanley-Jensen Stadium at 7:00 p.m.

“Please come by if you want some excitement and to see some good football. We want to support these young men, so come out on Friday night if you can,” Wallace said.
