Millbrook City Council approved a resolution, Jan. 13, 2025, to formalize a settlement agreement with the Town of Coosada, bringing an end to ongoing litigation over jurisdictional boundaries.
The dispute originated in 2024 after the owner of an unincorporated property requested annexation into the City of Millbrook. The property’s location, situated between the limits of Millbrook and Coosada, sparked disagreement over jurisdictional boundaries, prompting Coosada to file a lawsuit involving the Elmore County Fire Fighters Association.
City officials said that, after evaluating the costs and implications of continued litigation, settling was in Millbrook’s best interest and provided a clear resolution to the boundary issue with minimal impact on the city and its residents.
“When you look at it, we took back property that Coosada thought was theirs, and we made small adjustments to jurisdictions, so that lines did not cut across properties,” said Millbrook Fire Chief Larry Brown. “We really haven’t lost anything out of this settlement except some lawyer fees.”
