Airport Road Intermediate School has announced the creation of its own Food Pantry, a new initiative designed to help meet the needs of students and families within the community. The pantry will provide access to essential food items and household goods for those experiencing financial hardship, ensuring that every child has the nourishment they need to focus and thrive at school.

The announcement comes at a time when many families across Alabama are facing new financial challenges due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced a temporary suspension of the November 2025 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefit allotments until federal funding is restored. This pause in benefits could create additional strain for households that rely on the program to put food on the table each month.

“As a school family, we believe it is our shared responsibility to lend a helping hand whenever there is a need. Together, we can build a stronger, more caring community, one can at a time,” said Principal Marcia Stephens.

To get started, they are asking for canned goods and non-perishable food items to help stock the pantry. No monetary donations are taken. Your donation will make a meaningful difference in the lives of their students and their families.

Donations should be made to the front office at the school anytime from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., starting on November 3 until further notice.

Airport Road Intermediate School is located at 384 Blackmon Farm Lane in Coosada, Alabama.
