The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly luncheon, Oct. 22, 2025, sponsored by Jackson Thornton Certified Public Accountants and Consultants at Catfish House.
The chamber’s luncheons provide valuable opportunities for local business leaders to connect, network, and learn from featured speakers. Each month, a new topic is highlighted to educate and inspire attendees.
This month’s keynote speakers from Jackson Thornton discussed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which encompasses a variety of tax reforms.
“Our biggest thing to point out is, if that wouldn’t have passed, your taxes would have went up considerably, and you would have felt it,” said Rusty Golden, principal of Jackson Thornton. “There were a lot of things that happened that were very positive for businesses.”
Jack Wright, certified public accountant with Jackson Thornton, followed with an overview of individual tax updates.
“One of the most significant changes, in my opinion, is the state and local income tax cap being raised to $40,000,” said Wright. “With it being raised, we’re going to see a lot more taxpayers itemizing their deductions.”
Holly Tucker, also a certified public accountant with Jackson Thornton, discussed “Trump Accounts” for children — another provision of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
“Trump Accounts is something you have to make an election to do, not something you’re going to automatically get,” said Tucker. “There are a lot of things not nailed down yet, but the idea is that, if you have a child born as of Jan. 1, 2025, the government is going to put $1,000 in that account for you.”
