Two Prattville High School baseball players are participating in the 2025 Perfect Game WWBA World Championships. Dorsett Jackson and Aiden Urnis were both selected for the Atlanta Braves Scout Team, coached by former Atlanta Braves great Ryan Klesko. Klesko played for the Braves from 1992 to 1999 and was on the Braves’ 1995 World Series championship team. He also played for the San Diego Padres from 2000-2006 and was an All-Star in 2001.

The WWBA World Championship is held at the Roger Dean Complex in Jupiter, Florida. It is one of the top scouting attractions in amateur baseball each year and is attended by more than 700 major league baseball scouts and college coaches.

Both Jackson and Urnis discussed their experiences competing in the prestigious event.

“It’s been challenging but fun,” said Jackson. “It’s really been helpful so far just to see the talent all on the field and a motivator to never stop working because someone else always is. But also it’s been great realizing that I can compete with these guys and I work just as hard if not harder.”

“For me, it’s been an awesome experience getting to play with some of the best competition in the country,” said Urnis. “I’ve been having an absolute blast, and the atmosphere is amazing, with all the coaches around the fields, it has been great.”

In addition to Klesko, the Prattville duo are being coached by Jed Douglas, who has worked as a scout for the Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals, and St. Louis Cardinals.

“When you have guys like that on your side, it won’t do anything but help you get better,” said Jackson. “A big thing for me is I know that I’m not going to get a hit every time and I’ll strike out from time to time, but when I get in the box I have the mindset of I’m the best player in this complex. Even if it isn’t true, it better be true to me if I want to succeed against these high-level guys. That’s really what they’ve been instilling in me, and that it’s always the next pitch.”

Urnis, a shortstop, has committed to play at the next level with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, located in Perkinston, Mississippi. “My plans as of right now are to sign to continue playing baseball at Mississippi Gulf Coast,” said Urnis. “I’m extremely excited to get to Mississippi Gulf Coast.”

Jackson is working hard to earn a spot at the next level. In addition to a busy schedule playing ball, the senior has worked out at 910 Fitness with trainers Tommy Webber and Jeremy Lee.

“I want to win a state championship, and I think that’s the goal of every team in Alabama. I want to leave the program at Prattville High School better than I found it. I want to play the game for as long as the Lord allows me to. I’ve made mistakes in my life, but I know that I have a forgiving and faithful father in Jesus Christ who wants a relationship with me and everyone else on this planet.”

The last day of the WWBA World Championship is scheduled for Monday, October 13.
