One-day training brings chefs, managers, and industry partners together to boost efficiency, safety, and quality in K-12 kitchens Millbrook, Ala. — School nutrition professionals from across Alabama will gather Wednesday, October 8 at 17 Springs in

Millbrook for the Equipment Academy, an interactive training focused on using modern kitchen equipment to improve meal quality, efficiency, and food safety in K-12 cafeterias.

Hosted by Alabama School Nutrition Association, the Academy features live demonstrations, showcasing combi ovens, convection ovens, tilt skillets/braising pans, and more.

“Our goal is simple: give school nutrition teams practical, equipment and skills that save time, protect food safety, and improve meal quality,” said Cacyce Davis. “When our teams are confident using the equipment they already have—and when they know how to plan smart for what’s next, students win.”

Why It Matters Alabama schools serve hundreds of thousands of meals each day. The right equipment— used the right way—helps teams cook from scratch more often, incorporate Alabama grown produce, and deliver consistent, appealing meals that support student health and learning. “When our teams master these tools, we can do more with less—fresh roast vegetables, perfectly baked whole grains, and safe, speedy service,” said Cacyce Davis. “That’s a win for students, families, and taxpayers.”
