Former Wetumpka softball star Ashlynn Campbell signed with Purdue University after leading the Indians to the Class 6A state championship in 2023. She started 49 games for the Boilermakers as a freshman in 2024 and another 50 games as a sophomore.
“Playing at Purdue is everything that I have ever dreamed of and more,” said Campbell. “It has given me the opportunity to play the sport I love at the highest level, travel the country, meet some amazing people, while also getting top tier education.”
In her freshman season, Campbell was named the Big 10 Freshman of the Week after tallying 7 hits, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs in a weekend during the Thundering Herd Invitational at Marshall University in early March. For the year, Campbell had a .966 fielding percentage and assisted on 8 double plays. She had 43 hits during the season and a 10-game hit streak during the year.
Campbell was also successful during her sophomore campaign. She had 31 hits on the season and 6 multi-hit games. In the field, she had 152 catches with 71 putouts and 68 assists for a .914 fielding percentage.
“My most memorable moment from my two seasons here is our team hosting the 2025 BIG10 tournament. It was great to see everyone show up and witness the amazing support for our program, while also making it to the Semifinals as a 12-ranked seed,” said Campbell.
The Boilermakers improved their record from 25-27 in Campbell’s freshman season to 30-23 in her sophomore season, and a trip to the semi-finals of the Big 10 conference tournament. She hopes the Boilermakers continue their improvement in her third season at the school.
“A team goal for us is to make a Regional appearance and have a 40-win season. Our team is very excited about the upcoming season and anxious to get it going,” said Campbell.
While she goes to college in Indiana, the Wetumpka graduate still tries to visit her family in Alabama as much as possible.
“I go home quite a bit for holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, summer, and sometimes fall break. I try to make the visits in the fall since the spring is so hectic. The winters are very different here than what I’m used to at home. I never in my life thought I would experience negative degree temperatures, but it’s like that almost every day in January. The cold and wind chill make it really tough.”
Campbell plans to graduate in Spring 2027 and is majoring in Selling and Sales Management.
